THE DISAPPEARANCE OF CHILDHOOD
NEIL POSTMAN

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2016 — 8:45 AM

Join Amy Julia Becker, author and WMS parent, for a discussion of this classic book on parenting in the modern age. “The Disappearance of Childhood” is about the promises and perils of our technological and image-based age when it comes to childhood, learning and maturing towards adulthood. Postman’s book, originally written in 1980, writes about the problems of moving from a text-based to image-based culture when it comes to human development. Was he right? What role does the Internet play in challenging or affirming Postman’s views? How can we give our kids the space to be kids and to grow up into mature adults? Bring your thoughts, concerns, hopes and questions! You can find the book here.

Parents are welcome to join in this important discussion even if they haven’t had a chance to read the book.
