Giving to WMS >> WMS Community Partnership Program

Washington Montessori School Community Partnership Program (WMSCPP)

The Washington Montessori Community Partnership Program (WMSCPP) provides Middle School education to 6 graduates of the Children’s Community School (CCS) in Waterbury, CT each year.

The program has been in place since 2005 with both support and enthusiasm from the faculty and Board of Trustees at WMS. The children who come to our school have been identified as potential academic and social leaders within inner-city Waterbury. They come from homes with limited financial resources.

The goal of this partnership is to provide a WMS education to motivated students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, so that we may enrich not only our own community, but also communities that are less fortunate. All gifts to this program will support the cost of educating WMSCPP students. This includes tuition, transportation to and from school, and expenses for materials and activities. The school also provides laptop computers for students to use during the school year. In conjunction with this program, a group of volunteers from the Washington area comes to WMS to support these students academically. Students meet with their mentors once or twice a week for an hour and a half at a time.

When WMSCPP students enter eighth grade, attention is given to planning their next step into high school, so they may continue to thrive at their next level of education.  So far, eight WMSCPP students have graduated from WMS and have gone on to attend high schools, both public and independent, in Waterbury.

Washington Montessori School has a history of reaching out and connecting to the community through volunteer initiatives. WMS students are involved in these efforts and the philosophy of giving to others is embedded in our curriculum.  Our school’s partnership with the Children’s Community School dates back to 1995 and continues to enrich our school community.

Our goal is to raise $60,000 each year to defray the $175,000 annual cost of the program.

Please join us in making a donation to support the ongoing viability and sustainability of the Washington Montessori School Community Partnership Program, thereby bettering our community and our world.
