MS 7th Grade Hero's Journey (Spring)

Date: 06/05/2010
Time: 9:00 AM

During the year, the seventh grade class has been involved in a rite of passage program called "The Heroic Journey". Theo Grayson has been coordinating this project.

On Saturday, June 5th, a "Council of Elders" will convene, and students will have an opportunity to present their year-long work. Seventh grade students are expected to be at school from 9:00am to 11:00 that day.

The purpose of the Heroic Journey Program: Our hope is that by exploring the various ways in which we become responsible to ourselves and each other, by developing strategies to develop a new skill and to deal with setbacks, and by learning to appreciate and use the guidance of an ally, our 7th grade students will be better able to handle the temptations and road blocks that invariably arise during this important time of change. The symbolism of the Hero's Journey, the public presentation of the initiate, and the achievement of a challenging personal goal all serve to give the adolescent a sense of the significance and nobility of their own personal journey.
