MS 7th Year Hero's Journey (Fall)

Dear Seventh Grade Students and Parents:

On September 24-25 the seventh grade students will take part in a series of challenges, both as a group and individually, as an initiation ceremony and jumping off place for the Hero’s Journey.  Students will hike Bear Mountain in Salisbury, camp overnight at Macedonia State Park in Kent, and participate in a cooperative farm project at Stone Wall Dairy in Cornwall.  

Goals:

            Group and Individual Problem Solving

            Physical challenge, group achievement

            Silence and solitude: reflection

            Celebration

Schedule:

Thursday: Sept 24

8:20     Drop off at WMS

8:30     Group meeting and preparation

9:00     Leave for Bear Mountain

10:00   Begin hike

12:30   Summit, eat lunch

1:00     Solo and individual reflection time on summit

2:00     Hike down to vans

4:00     Return to vans and drive to Macedonia State Park in Kent

5:00     Set up camp site

6:00     Pizza dinner

7:00     Process day’s events, camp ground activity

9:00     Bedtime

Friday:  Sept 25

7:00     Prepare breakfast, eat and clean-up

            Take down camp and load vans

8:30     Leave for group farm project at Stone Wall Dairy

9:00     Farm project at Stone Wall Dairy

12:30   Drive to Kent Falls for lunch

Prepare and eat lunch

1:30     Process retreat activities

3:00     Return to WMS

3:15     Pick up at WMS
