Opening Bell Ceremony

Washington Montessori celebrated its second annual Opening Bell Ceremony and International Peace Day on Tuesday, September 21st.

Playing drums, Matilda Giampietro, Wendy Rhodes and Sarah-Jane Chelminski led the entire student and faculty body in a peaceful procession through the school and to the gymnasium where the ceremony took place. Middle School students Canning Malkin and Rebecca Lundie led the school in singing the international peace song, "Light a Candle for Peace."

Washington Montessori was just one of many Montessori schools around the world who participated in the international peace day. Starting with schools in New Zealand and ending with schools in Hawaii, "Light a Candle for Peace" was sung continuously for 24 hours around the world.
