“Rock Work” is popular here at WMS. Every morning, Lower School students take turns walking down the hallway with a bucket of rocks in each hand. This is important work for our Lower School students. It is purposeful movement that builds gross motor skills, and exercises a child’s awareness of his or her own body. (Proprioception, is what scientists call it.) It also builds independence and confidence.
We adults love the chance to say hello to our young students, and we also love seeing their sense of accomplishment as they make it all the way to the green couch outside Pat’s office. There’s often a good chance a little one will be taking a moment to rest there too.
