WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
With only a few official practices under their belts, the WMS cross country team plunged into action on Wednesday at the Taft Rhino Run. An invitational-style meet saw runners from all over Connecticut. 70 girls and almost 90 boys toed the line to test their legs and lungs on the 2-mile course in Watertown. This was the first meet ever for many of the runners on our young team. The girls team is showing some depth with 4 runners placing in the top 1/2 of the field. Reagan led the way with an impressive 7th place overall. Blake, Thea and Fiona were all less than a minute apart from each other and will score well throughout the season. Madison and Emily Lang tied! Julia ran a smart conservative race and will build from here. Avery and Grace paced each other side by side the entire race and had a strong finish in their first ever meet.
The boys have a strong core of Bodhi, Liam and Tate at the front end. They all finished in the top 1/2 of the field and within 5 seconds of each other! Veteran runner Christos was not far behind and will be getting closer the front group as the season progresses. Arlo had a strong showing in his first race ever. Strong runner Stephen was plagued with some breathing issues that we will sort in the upcoming days to get him back to the front group. Finn couldn’t join us but will be back in action next week.
