Puppetry Festival: Jack & The Beanstalk

“Jack & The Beanstalk”
SATURDAY, 2.9.19 AT 10:30 AM

We are excited to announce our 13th Annual Puppetry Festival presented by National Iron Bank, Sawing High Climbers and Stars Hollow Yarns. This year’s festival will feature shows on the first three Saturdays in February at 10:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 each. (Children under 2 are free.)

“The puppetry festival has become a much-anticipated event here at WMS. We always have tremendous performers, great shows and a fantastic audience,” said Jill Skilton, Director of Communications at Washington Montessori School. “The shows have proven to be a fun and easy way for parents to spend time with their active children on those cold, winter mornings.” Each show is about an hour long and includes a ‘meet-and-greet’ with the puppets and performers. After each performance, children and their parents are invited to play in the WMS gymnasium.

On Saturday, February 9, Jim Napolitano will present “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Based on the Appalachian folk tales collected by Richard Chase, this version follows Jack on his many adventures. The show includes songs, stories and more than 80 handcrafted one-of-a-kind shadow puppets. “Jim is hilarious and puts on an amazing show that is just as entertaining for adults and big kids, as it is for the little ones,” said Ms. Skilton.

John McDonough of Pumpernickel Puppets will present the classic story of “Peter Rabbit” on Saturday, February 16. Using a combination of hand puppets and marionettes, Mr. McDonough brings the mischievous and adventurous hero to life for a new generation. “John’s shows are especially fun for children because his puppets are really big and bright and colorful. He brings to life these cartoon-like characters that stand taller than most of the audience. It’s so much fun to watch the children looking up at them with such awe,” Ms. Skilton said.
