Washington Montessori School is an engaging and substantive academic environment supported by a deeply-rooted and diverse community of families and educators. Our students learn to recognize their individual and collective potential, develop thoughtful approaches to learning, and choose paths to responsible and fulfilling lives.

We believe there is no better way to understand the Washington Montessori School difference than to experience it yourself—even if you’re just curious. To this end, we invite you to spend some time with us. We’ll organize a student-led tour of the campus and invite you to observe classrooms. We believe you will be impressed with how self-directed and independent our students are.
Meet Our Students Meet Our Faculty Meet Our Alumni
We believe children learn best through active, concrete experiences rather than through rote learning and we have a strong, well-defined curriculum to carry this out at all levels.
Early + Often = Forever.
A range of Signature Experiences enhance the academic program at WMS. Not often encountered in the traditional classroom, these opportunities inspire intellectual curiosity, foster resilience and encourage self-awareness—skills they’ll need to thrive in a changing world.
Ready For A Changing World.
Fundamental to the WMS experience, daily athletic and artistic opportunities help shape our students’ self-confidence, motivation and well-being. Formal lessons within a classroom setting as well as the freedom to explore individual pursuits inspire students to become creative thinkers and courageous doers.
The culture of our school community is based on respect, inclusiveness and collaboration. Working in partnership with students and families, teachers build trusting and long lasting relationships. Mixed-age classes strengthen the experience. This approach enhances each student’s sense of belonging and facilitates optimal learning.
Gifts that Give Back.
Like all schools, WMS depends on voluntary support to maintain its financial well-being and to meet operating costs. For more than 50 years, members of the WMS community have made generous contributions to ensure a quality education for our students and those who will follow in their footsteps.
Gifts that Give Back. Why Give?
Our Montessori After-school Program (MAP) has evolved over the years to include a variety of flexible childcare and enrichment options available both before and after school hours. MAP is available to our Elementary, Lower School and YCC students. Some offerings are offered at no charge while others have fees. Some offerings are available by sign-up only while others are available on a drop-in basis. (Visit the Middle School page for details on our MS schedule.)
