Update July 31

Greetings All,

I hope this email finds you all well, enjoying a break from school year routines, and indulging in any safe summer activities available to you! While we still have more than a month left to savor the slower days of summer, we are in full sprint mode here at school getting ready for the start of the 2020-2021 school year at Washington Montessori!  Although grateful for the many lessons learned and connections accomplished since the nation-wide shutdown in March, there is no doubt we all benefit most from learning, growing, and celebrating in person.  It is with this understanding, we have toiled diligently to prepare a safe, nurturing, and inspiring plan to reopen our campus.

Please do not mistake my enthusiasm for a lack of understanding of the seriousness of the venture we are undertaking or the uncertainty inherent in the months ahead. We understand there is no single silver-bullet mitigating measure, so our planning incorporates multiple layers of safeguarding systems.  All this said, we recognize we cannot eliminate all risk or anticipate and plan for every possible scenario. Therefore, our plan is intentionally designed to be flexible and nimble so we can adapt as circumstances and guidance from local, state, and national agencies and associations evolve.  Our plan covers primary areas of importance and provides both specific and general policy guidelines, but it does not attempt to address every contingency that can arise.

Please take time to read the plan carefully. As a community, our health and safety are connected. We have a shared responsibility to the care and support of each other.  We must demonstrate unity in our commitment to our deeply-rooted community in service of our individual as well as our collective wellbeing despite diverse perspectives. This includes embracing recommendations of our public health professionals and government officials including limiting social contacts, wearing protective face masks, and following quarantine guidelines. In the words of Dr. Montessori, “We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.”

As you read through the attached plan summary, please take notes on your thoughts and questions.  We will be scheduling additional Family Connection Zoom meetings to discuss our planning, elaborate on details, and answer questions. You will also receive a short survey for feedback.  Finally, as always, please feel free to reach out directly to me or any member of the WMS leadership team.  Your partnership is essential to our success.

With gratitude for your patience and support in our planning,

Carney
