The school community enjoyed gathering to celebrate Earth Day. This year’s Earth Day celebration was moved from the Peace Garden to the lower playing field where cohorts and students could spread out and maintain some space. We gathered “in-the-round” with each cohort occupying their own slice of the circle. Our eighth-grade students, brandishing the school’s traditional Earth Day banners, formed the outermost circumference and guided their younger cohorts into their designated slice.
Each of the Upper El cohorts shared Earth Day poems with the school before Nora’s 6th-grade sustainability and garden students presented information on ocean plastics and the plight of the Monarch butterfly. The ceremony concluded with the traditional all-school singing of “This Pretty Planet.”
