WMS people

Thank you for your interest in Washington Montessori School! I’m so glad you’re here. My hope is two things will stand out as you become familiar with the WMS community, just as they did to me during my first interactions with the school. First is the unique culture of warmth, acceptance, and inclusion that is so alive here at WMS, and second is the authenticity and engagement of all the WMS students—from our littlest learners in YCC to our teenagers in Middle School. At WMS, the culture and engagement are inextricably yoked, and, together, form the foundation of our practice.

Our program is motivated by the work of Dr. Maria Montessori who firmly believed “the child is both a hope and promise for mankind.” Our students become the change agents who will shape the health and integrity of our future. In the words of Dr. Montessori:

Education cannot be dismissed as an insignificant factor in people’s lives, as a means of furnishing a few rudiments of culture to young people. It must be viewed, first of all, from the perspective of the development of human values in the individual, in particular, his moral values, and second, from the point of view of organizing the individuals possessed of these enhanced values into a society consciously aware of its destiny.

I hope I have piqued your interest in the powerful opportunities Washington Montessori School offers. Still, I am confident the best way for you to truly get a feel for the life of WMS and assess the fit for your family is to come and experience the energy of the school for yourself.  I look forward to welcoming you when you visit.
