At the 2019 Annual Auction & Dinner, we were thrilled to announce our plans to develop an environmentally sustainable campus and to secure funding for project’s initial phase. WMS Promise for the Planet will focus on funding multiple initiatives to do our part to save the earth and create a community of ambassadors educated to change our planet for future generations.
Designed to help us change our daily habits and attitudes, the initial Promise for the Planet wish list will include the following:
- Installing air hand dryers throughout WMS to dramatically reduce the use of paper towels, thereby saving trees and reducing landfill waste.
- Installing water bottle re-filling stations in the school, and surrounding fields, eliminating the need for single-use plastic water bottles.
- Restoring native flora to disturbed sections of our landscape in order to attract native fauna, and provide a lush habitat for essential pollinators
- Installing solar panels at WMS to create a source of clean energy and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
WMS Promise for the Planet is rooted in our belief in our collective responsibility to make long-term changes. We are hoping–with your help–that we can change our planet for years to come, beginning with this first stage.
The phased plan includes the following
Reduce Environmental Impact and Cost-reduce the use of energy, waste, and our carbon footprint, campus-wide.
Improve the Health and Well-Being of the Community through exercise, good nutrition, and an awareness of where our food comes from.
Increase Sustainability Literacy with local awareness and problem solving. Empower students through education and experience so that they may develop the voice necessary to solve regional environmental challenges.
