Girls’ Varsity vs. Sherman.
The Girls’ Varsity team started off their season strong with a 4-3 win over Sherman Middle School. During the first half the girls put up 3 goals against the Sherman team. The Sherman team fought back and scored three goals tying the game up. In the last minute, a fourth goal was scored by WMS to come out with the win. Despite the heat, the WMS team did not give up, and their hard work paid off. We look forward to the upcoming season and hope to continue to grow and keep working hard! Final Score: WMS 4, Sherman 3. Cross Country at Rumsey.
It was another scorching hot day for the WMS Polar Bear runners at the tri-meet with Rumsey and Indian Mountain. The girls team fought hard for every place and had some exciting sprint finishes. They fell to Rumsey, but triumphed over Indian Mountain by just two points! The boys team, having fewer than the requisite five runners to officially score, were out for individual glory. Coleman, Christos, Tate, and Riley all got to experience sprint finishes at the end of the two mile course. Way to fight right up to the line Bears! Next up is Duchess Day in NY on October 16.

Boys’ Varsity vs. Sherman.
The Boys’ Varsity team played with passion in a difficult game against Sherman Middle School. We were small in size compared to the Sherman team, but intimidation wasn’t a factor. We played a 4-3-3 formation, suggested by 7th Year Edward DeVos, who is a well-respected player for his vision and midfielder skills. All of our players explored both familiar and unfamiliar positions, which paid off especially for 8th Year Sammy Blair, who typically plays defender. He stepped up to play striker and ended up scoring WMS’s one and only goal of the game. Though Sherman put more goals in than WMS, our teams played with determination and grace right up until the final whistle. Final Score: WMS 1, Sherman 5
