Summer Camps 2019


WMS Summer! will inspire children to explore, create and play! We are offering three weeks of WMS Summer! ( July 8-12; July 15-19; July 22-26) This year for children entering grades 1-4. Each week has full-day (9-4) and modified-day (10:15-4) options.

9:00-10:30 The day begins at the Washington Town Beach for small group swim lessons and free play under the supervision of Meghan Morse, a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. The swim session is limited to 14 campers. Children should arrive at Washington Town Beach ready to swim with a change of clothes for the rest of the day. Children will travel back to the Washington Montessori School campus via bus at 10:15. (In the event of inclement weather, campers should be brought directly to the campus at 9 a.m. where Meghan will lead them in some indoor games and recreation.)
10:30-12 After enjoying a snack, students will break out into two groups. Campers will have the opportunity to enjoy a session of outdoor adventure and a session of science, nature, and STEM on the WMS campus utilizing our outdoor classroom and Inventor’s Toolbox, exploring the nature, discussing the environment and participating in science experiments. (Campers need to bring their own peanut-free and tree-nut free snacks.) Modified Day campers (10:15-4) should arrive at Washington Montessori School at 10:15.
12-12:30 Lunch: Campers will come together to have lunch (Campers need to bring their own peanut-free and tree-nut free lunches. Lunches will be refrigerated.)
12:30-1:30 Campers will enjoy a session of cooperative games fostering sportsmanship, collaboration and good will.
1:30-3:45 Campers will once again break into two groups and enjoy alternate sessions of art and theater art workshops with a 15 min. snack break in between. (Reminder: all snacks should be peanut-free and tree-nut free.)
3:45-4 All campers will gather for inclusive free-play time on or natural playground until pick-up from camp.

The cost for full day is $300. The cost for modified day is $255.

Ever wish for a better summer camp option for your 3-5 year old? Washington Montessori School is thrilled to offer our Lower School Summer Session 2018. We know that summer is a magical time for children, when something as simple as blowing dandelion fluff can be a great joy! With flexible hours to meet families’ needs, our Lower School Summer Session will provide the whimsy of a carefree summer day within the comfort of a Montessori environment.

Our Lower School Summer Session is open to all children 3-5 years old (6-year-olds who have not yet started kindergarten are also well-suited and welcome to join in this program). Campers must be fully toilet trained prior to camp attendance. A minimum of 3 weeks is required for students who are not currently enrolled in WMS. Current WMS students may enjoy any number of weeks. Enrichment programs include Riverside Reptiles, Music and Art.

1 HALF DAY (FRIDAYS 9 AM –1 PM)

The mission of Soccer Extreme is to help young athletes develop their true potential in the game of soccer by using innovative and proven coaching methods. The “Extreme Kids” program, designed for 4-6-year-olds, is a wonderful introduction to soccer. It is fun, fun and more fun! The curriculum is in line with the USSF national youth license programming. Our creative approach helps children develop a love for the game. We guarantee plenty of smiles from both campers and parents. The “Extreme Day Camp,” for children 7-11, is designed for the recreation and developmental player. The focus is on skill building and technical development combined with tactical aspects of the game appropriate to age and ability level. Themes of safety, learning and enjoyment are consistent through all age curricula. Soccer Extreme for ages 4-6 runs from 9 to 11 a.m. and costs $125. Soccer Extreme for ages 7-11 runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costs $175.

WMS is offering an exciting summer junior tennis camp. Led by Tennis Pro David Mwanza, with the help of other instructors, players will improve their tennis game and learn important skills they need off the court. David is a local tennis professional who has 15 years of coaching and development experience.

The camp will cover tennis fundamentals, skills and also use instinctive methods to improve participant’s game, shots and boost their confidence. Important aspects of the game like tactics, space and time for all age groups will be reviewed. Improved shot execution for the beginner, intermediate and advanced players. The camp will be taught with different transitional balls and tools, in an atmosphere where kids can interact and share their skills with others. Exercises to improve agility, balance and footwork for warm-ups will be included. Cost is $225

Washington Montessori School is excited to welcome Joseph Jude Brien and his Lost Art Tinker Wagon to our summer camp lineup. The Tinker Wagon is a portable classroom/shop/studio/chuck wagon, equipped with seventy-five square feet of work surface and 200 square feet of awning. Students will work at their own workbench with real hand tools and natural materials. They will learn how to safely use common woodworking tools while constructing practical, useful projects and learning about their historical connections. Students will craft 1 – 2 projects per day including a leather pouch, survival bracelet, wooden paddle boat, wooden trowel and much more! Cost is $255

Campers will integrate concepts of science, technology, engineering, art, and math to design and create their own inventions using materials and tools from the WMS Inventor’s Toolbox. Under the guidance of WMS middle school teacher, Kylie Haydock, campers will be instructed in the use of the Makey Makey bread board. With a computer and basic coding lessons, campers can create anything from controllers for games, to cardboard animals that “speak, sing, and play music”! Campers may use Tinkercad as a development and design tool to 3D print pieces for their inventions. The engineering Design Thinking Method will be introduced to students as a tool to bring their ideas from imagination to innovation! Campers attending both sessions will have time to hone their coding skills, enhance their creations and make numerous inventions both on their own and in collaboration with other campers. Cost is $255 per week

Candlewood Fencing and WMS are partnering to offer a week of basic instruction in the sport of fencing. Whether campers are new to the sport or have prior experience, all are welcome and will gain from this experience! Campers will benefit from personally tailored instruction to ensure each student’s learning, growth and fun in a nurturing environment.
